Job summary

Ingersoll Rand is seeking a Cooling System Design Engineer to support the design, development, and delivery of cooling infrastructure for hyperscale, enterprise, and colocation data center projects.

This role collaborates with multidisciplinary engineering teams, equipment vendors, construction partners, and project stakeholders to meet performance, energy efficiency, scalability, and operational requirements throughout the project lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline is preferred.
• 5+ years of experience in HVAC, mission-critical facilities, or data center infrastructure design.
• 1+ years of experience performing HVAC load calculations and system sizing.

Responsibilities

• Develop conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs for data center cooling systems.
• Design and optimize chilled water, direct expansion (DX), liquid cooling, air-side and water-side economization systems.
• Perform cooling load calculations and thermal analyses for white space, support spaces, and critical infrastructure areas.
• Develop HVAC system layouts, piping schematics, flow diagrams, and equipment specifications.
• Evaluate emerging cooling technologies, including direct-to-chip and immersion cooling solutions.
• Conduct system sizing calculations for chillers, cooling towers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, heat exchangers, and associated equipment.
• Perform CFD analyses for airflow management and thermal optimization.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and industry best practices.
• Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, structural, controls, and commissioning teams.
• Review vendor submittals, shop drawings, and equipment specifications; provide engineering support during procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
• Design solutions focusing on energy efficiency and sustainability; contribute to PUE optimization.
