Job summary

Flad Architects is partnering with UCLA to transform a premier shopping mall site into a multidisciplinary research nexus on UCLA’s job site in Los Angeles. The position is on-site Monday through Friday and runs through Summer 2028, with a strong emphasis on construction administration for large-scale commercial work.

Ideal candidates bring 5+ years in construction administration, proficiency with Bluebeam, Revit, Office, and web-based PM tools, and relevant architectural or construction degrees

Qualifications

• Minimum of five years of Construction Administration experience on large-scale commercial projects.
• Understanding of sustainable design principles and LEED knowledge preferred.
• Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the United States preferred.

Responsibilities

• On-site observations of facilities and general project administration, payment requests, and change approvals.
• Provide prompt service regarding interpretations, decisions, and construction bulletins.
• Review RFIs and submittals and coordinate with design team for resolutions.
• Monitor construction changes, shop drawings and other submissions from the contractor.
• Review shop drawings and document non-conforming work with corrective action reports.

Overview

If you enjoy solving complex construction challenges in an on-site collaborative environment, this might be the opportunity for you. Flad Architects, a national architectural firm, is partnering with UCLA to transform the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall into a nexus for discovery and innovation. Designed to connect academic researchers, corporate partners, startups, government agencies, and the community, it aims to act as a catalyst for multidisciplinary translational research.

This position requires the individual to be on the UCLA job site, Monday through Friday each week. The position is estimated to run through Summer 2028.

How will your days be spent

• On-site observations of facilities, general project and contract administration, payment requests, and change approvals.
• Provide prompt and expeditious service regarding issues of interpretations, decisions, and construction bulletins.
• Review and evaluate RFIs and submittals. Bring questions or concerns to the attention of design team members who will address problems and suggest resolutions.
• Monitor construction changes, shop drawings, and/or other submissions from the contractor.
• Review shop drawings, reject work that does not conform to the construction documents, and record the issues with a corrective action report or non-conforming work notice.
• Coordinate outside consultants, as required, to complete the project successfully.
• Facilitate timely communication between the owner, contractor, project manager, and other relevant team members for assigned projects; communication includes advising Flad team members of services needed during construction.

What you bring to this role

Experience:

• Minimum of five years of Construction Administration experience working on large-scale commercial projects (utilizing concrete, steel, etc.) required; ten years preferred.
• Skilled in collaboration, attention to detail, and communication.
• An understanding of the principles of sustainable design and prior experience with LEED rating systems is preferred.

Software Skills:

• Proficiency in Bluebeam required; Revit preferred.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
• Experience in web-based project management programs required.

Education:

• Degree in architecture, construction, or related field required.
• Sustainability accreditation preferred.
• Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the United States preferred.

Annual base salary range is currently: $125,000 - $155,000. Actual starting salary will be within that range and is dependent upon job-related education, knowledge, and experience.
