Job summary

Flad Architects is seeking an experienced Construction Administration professional to join the UCLA project team on-site. You will perform on-site observations, review RFIs and submittals, manage shop drawings, and coordinate with owners, contractors, and consultants to keep the project on track.

The role requires five years in construction administration on large-scale commercial projects, with ten years preferred.

Qualifications

  • Sustainability knowledge and LEED familiarity preferred.

Responsibilities

  • On-site observations of facilities and contract administration.
  • Provide prompt service on interpretations, decisions, and construction bulletins.
  • Review RFIs and submittals and coordinate with design team for resolutions.
  • Monitor construction changes and shop drawings; reject non-conforming work.
  • Coordinate outside consultants to complete the project.
  • Facilitate timely communication among owner, contractor, project manager and Flad team.

Designed to connect academic researchers, corporate partners, startups, government agencies, and the community, it aims to act as a catalyst for multidisciplinary translational research.

Flad Architects, a national architectural firm, is partnering with UCLA to transform the former Westside Pavilion shopping mall into a nexus for discovery and innovation. Designed to connect academic researchers, corporate partners, startups, government agencies, and the community, it aims to act as a catalyst for multidisciplinary translational research.

This position requires the individual to be on the UCLA job site, Monday through Friday each week. The position is estimated to run through Summer 2028.
How Will Your Days Be Spent
  • On-site observations of facilities, general project and contract administration, payment requests, and change approvals.
  • Provide prompt and expeditious service regarding issues of interpretations, decisions, and construction bulletins.
  • Review and evaluate RFIs and submittals. Bring questions or concerns to the attention of design team members who will address problems and suggest resolutions.
  • Monitor construction changes, shop drawings, and/or other submissions from the contractor.
  • Review shop drawings, reject work that does not conform to the construction documents, and record the issues with a corrective action report or non-conforming work notice.
  • Coordinate outside consultants, as required, to complete the project successfully.
  • Facilitate timely communication between the owner, contractor, project manager, and other relevant team members for assigned projects; communication includes advising Flad team members of services needed during construction.
Experience
What you bring to this role
  • Minimum of five years of Construction Administration experience working on large-scale commercial projects (utilizing concrete, steel, etc.) required; ten years preferred.
  • Skilled in collaboration, attention to detail, and communication.
  • An understanding of the principles of sustainable design and prior experience with LEED rating systems is preferred.
Software Skills
  • Proficiency in Bluebeam required; Revit preferred.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office required.
  • Experience in web-based project management programs required.
Education
  • Degree in architecture, construction, or related field required.
  • Sustainability accreditation preferred.
  • Registered Architect or Professional Engineer in the United States preferred.

Annual base salary range is currently: $125,000 - $155,000. Actual starting salary will be within that range and is dependent upon job-related education, knowledge, and experience.
