Job summary

State of Oregon’s Department of Human Services seeks a Child Protective Services Worker (Social Service Specialist 1) for the Newport office. This is an in-person role focused on safety assessments and service planning for children and families.

You will work within an equity-driven framework, handling diverse cases with a strong benefits package and a commitment to community well-being. A degree in Human Services or related field is required, with multiple qualification paths accepted.

Qualifications

• A valid driver’s license is required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field is required.
• OR a bachelor’s degree unrelated to Human Services with one year of related experience or equivalent coursework.
• OR an associate degree with two years of related experience or related training/certification.

Responsibilities

• Respond to referrals by interviewing children, families, and contacts.
• Observe home environments, assess safety, and determine abuse/neglect findings.
• Develop service plans to meet the needs of children and families.
• Arrange medical evaluations, placements and connect families with services.
• Create reports, safety plans and case notes; testify in court when needed.
