Job summary

Clean Harbors Wilmington, CA Facility is seeking a Receiving Chemist Intern to join our safety-focused team for Summer 2027. This in-person internship offers hands-on experience with real projects across environmental, energy, and industrial services.

Start dates are May 17th or May 24th, internships run through August. Applicants pursue a chemistry-related degree, may have forklift experience, and must be able to lift 50+ pounds and work collaboratively in a team.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a degree in chemistry or a related field at an accredited college or university.
• Strong safety mindset and willingness to learn in a team environment.
• Ability to work in person at the Wilmington, CA facility.

Responsibilities

• Ensure safety is the top priority and follow all work practices and policies.
• Receive containers, verify counts, and code waste for disposal.
• Sample incoming drums and perform basic analyses per procedures.
• Sort and consolidate alkaline batteries for disposal.
• Code drums for routing and billing as per protocol.
• Move drums to proper storage areas and complete QA/QC paperwork.
• Maintain a safe environment compliant with OSHA and company protocols.
