Job summary

Volunteers of America Los Angeles is seeking an Academic Tutor to supervise academic tutoring sessions and help program participants develop skills across Math, English, Science, and related subjects.

You will develop lesson plans and provide individual or small group tutoring under the Lead Tutor, including enrichment activities and college preparatory workshops. This on-site role requires passion for education and interacting with youth.

Qualifications

• Fingerprint clearance and background check required.
• Ability to perform under emotional stress and handle challenging clients.
• Minimum 1 year tutoring or related experience.
• Current college freshman or higher with mastery of target subject.
• GPA requirement stated as 3.0 in high school.

Responsibilities

• Lead academic tutoring sessions to help participants develop skills to master academic material.
• Coordinate daily homework assistance and tutoring program for students.
• Develop lesson plans in line with California Content Standards.
• Assist in creation of learning activities and department objectives.
• Maintain tutorial logs and monthly reports.
• Monitor tutoring resources during sessions.
• Prepare classroom materials for daily activities.
• Mentor students about college experiences and lead workshops as needed.
