Job summary

VOALA, a Volunteers of America affiliate in Westminster, CA, seeks an Academic Tutor to supervise and deliver after-school tutoring in Math, English, Science, and related subjects. You will support students with homework help and class material review, and help develop enrichment activities to enhance academic and social development.

You will create and implement lesson plans, lead college/career and financial literacy workshops, and mentor students toward their higher education goals.

Qualifications

• Must be able to pass a fingerprint clearance, background check, including criminal history, personal references, employment and education verifications
• 1 year of tutoring or related experience
• Current college freshman or higher with a mastery of target subject
• Minimum of 3.0 GPA in area of competency in high school

Responsibilities

• Lead academic tutoring sessions to help participants develop the skills required to master academic material
• Coordinates daily homework assistance and tutoring program for students
• Develop lesson plans and tutor in accordance with California Content Standards
• Assist in the creation of learning activities and other department objectives
• Complete tutorial log daily and complete monthly reports
• Keep written logs of students' and observations and progress
• Present and lead workshops on topics around college/careers/financial literacy/leadership development as needed
