Job summary

Muscatine Community School District is hiring a Substitute Food Service Worker to support our food service program across district buildings in Muscatine, IA. Substitutes fill in for absent staff and may take longer-term assignments as needed, working in an entry-level capacity to assist with food preparation and service.

The position pays $13.10 per hour and requires an interview, background check, and onboarding. Bilingual skills are advantageous and experience in school nutrition is helpful.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
• Customer service orientation and organizational ability.
• Ability to work with PreK-12 students and staff.

Responsibilities

• Assist in setting up service areas, portioning and serving food items.
• Assist in cleaning and storing utensils, washing tables, dishes, trays, and other kitchen equipment.
• Assist in preparing foods, such as cleaning and preparing fruits and vegetables, buttering bread, making sandwiches.
• Operate kitchen equipment such as dishwashers, ovens, and related gear.
• Help control food and supply costs with proper handling and storage techniques.
• Communicate with coworkers and maintain good relations with students, parents, faculty and the community.
• May handle cash transactions at the high school.
• Maintain sanitation and safety standards during shifts.
• Follow safety procedures including uniform, hairnet, and proper footwear.
