Job summary

Liberty University is seeking On-Demand Ride drivers to transport faculty, staff, and students on and off campus. You will operate an iPad-based ODR system, follow planned routes, and ensure passenger safety in varying conditions.

The role requires strong communication, reliability, and the ability to work as part of a team within the Facilities Management Division. The position emphasizes being available for emergencies, weather events, and campus activities while maintaining vehicle readiness

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Valid driver’s license with at least 5 years of driving history.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of related transit bus driving experience preferred.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Ability to operate iPad-based ODR system and a two-way radio.

Responsibilities

Job description

The On-Demand Ride -Driver is responsible for transporting Faculty, Staff, and Students to, from, on and off campus locations. Must Operate vehicles in a safe manner and various conditions. During the summer season On-Demand Ride (ODR) drivers will be given the opportunity to work for other departments within the Facilities Management Division, such as Maintenance, Custodial, Design & Renovations, and the Grounds Department. This is to provide work during this time of the year where work in the transit department is slow or comes to a halt. The Bus Operators will be responsible for performing and completing general tasks These requirements apply to both part time and full-time employees. Working independently and exercising good judgment and discretion is essential to this job.**Essential Functions and Responsibilities**1. As essential personnel: you are expected to be available in the event of school closings, delays, shutdowns, and any emergencies including clean up required because of severe weather incidents. Performs snow removal activities as assigned. Such as shoveling, salting, etc. Facilities Management Division employees are essential to the overall success of Liberty University and its day-to-day functions, especially during ongoing campus events such as Winter Fest, Orientation, Convocation, Commencement, CFAW, and summer camps amongst other planned and unplanned events throughout the year. Must be available to work scheduled and unscheduled hours as emergency needs arise.2. Reports to work at the required time and performs duties as assigned by the Director of Transit Dept.3. Must be familiar with the standard concepts, practices, and procedures of the Transit Department.4. Responsible for wearing the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while completing the job duties and responsibilities of the Transit craft. Including but not limited to; protective eye wear, ear protection, hard hat, gloves, Slip resistant/steel-toed boots, respirators/ masks, reflective safety vests, and sunscreen.5. Follows established safety driving procedures and techniques to perform and complete assigned bus routes to ensure that they and all passengers are safe.6. Responsible for performing basic vehicle maintenance such as checking the bus tires, oil and lights to ensure their vehicle is in good working order, clean and presentable to the public at the start of their shift.7. Ability to work an iPad with the On-Demand Ride pick up system.8. Ability to Answer calls from a two-way radio.9. Responsible for picking up and dropping off passengers at designated locations.10. Ability to follow a planned route according to a time schedule.11. Assists passengers with disabilities to get on and off the bus.12. Ability to pick up and secure ADA passengers belongings such as wheelchairs, scooters etc.,13. Obey traffic laws and state and federal transit regulations.14. Ability to interact with passengers in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.15. Ability to keep passengers informed of possible delays16. Ability & knowledge to answer questions about schedules, routes, and transfer points.17. Ability to respond calmly and in a timely manner in stressful situations and must be able to continue to calmly operate their bus.18. Responsible for reporting accidents or other traffic disruptions to a central dispatcher, and follow directions when using an alternate route.19. Relies on experience and judgement to plan and accomplish goals.20. Performs other duties as assigned.21. Works effectively as a team member, embracing and fostering LU’s mission.**Qualifications, Credentials, and Competencies****Must be a minimum of 21 years of age. Must possess a valid driver's license with a minimum of five (5) years documented driving history and maintain an acceptable driving record.**This position requires a high school diploma or GED. Minimum 1+years of related experience required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience in the Transit bus driving field. Certifications obtained while employed by Liberty University at the expense of the employer will be reimbursed back to the University Upon voluntary termination (resignation) for the first 12 months after acquiring it. Must be detailed oriented, possess strong organizational skills and well-developed communications skills.
