Job summary

University of Minnesota Facilities Management seeks a Mechanic 1 to perform routine maintenance, repair, and inspection of building mechanical systems, primarily HVAC and compressed air systems. This on-campus role emphasizes safety, reliability, and effective communication with a diverse university community.

You will operate CMMS to manage work orders, track parts, and enter timecards, while collaborating with other mechanics to ensure continuous campus operations.

Qualifications

• Two years of vocational education in mechanical maintenance is required.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions; licenses/certificates may be required for some positions.
• Position requires successful criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Inspects, lubricates, repairs, and maintains air handling units and fume hood systems.
• Replaces fan components, bearings, and motors as needed.
• Maintains and troubleshoots controls of heating/cooling pumps and compressors.
• Tests, cleans, and inspects equipment; uses backflow preventer when required.
• Repairs motors, pumps, and portable sump pumps; maintains general building systems.
