Job summary

The University of Maine’s Department of History invites applications for part-time, temporary faculty teaching positions for Fall 2026 and/or Spring 2027 on campus in Orono. Courses may include US History, European History, World History, Asian History, Maine Studies, or history of the US and Vietnam.

Essential duties include syllabus development, lesson planning, grading, office hours, student communication, LMS use, course coordination with other faculty, and required training.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in History or a closely related field.
• Academic preparation adequate for the courses to be taught.
• At least two years’ college teaching experience.
• PhD in History.

Responsibilities

• Syllabus development aligned with departmental expectations.
• Lesson planning and assignment design.
• Grading, office hours and student correspondence.
• Use of an online learning management system and instructional software.
• Course coordination meetings with other faculty members.
• Required orientation and training.
