Job summary

University of Maine in Orono invites applications for Part-Time Faculty (Temporary) in English for spring and/or fall 2026. Courses may include ENG 101, ENG 205, and ENG 317, taught on campus with in-person instruction.

Essential duties include syllabus development, lesson planning, assignment design, grading, office hours, and coordination with other faculty, plus orientation and training on instructional software and LMS. Rehire is possible subject to funding and PATFA contract.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in English or a closely related field.
• Academic preparation adequate for the courses to be taught.
• Preferred: at least two years’ college teaching experience.
• Preferred: prior experience with the UMaine writing curriculum.

Responsibilities

• Syllabus development aligned with departmental expectations.
• Lesson planning, assignment design and grading.
• Office hours and correspondence with students.
• Use of online learning management system and instructional software.
• Course coordination meetings with other faculty members and required orientation and training.
• Positions typically require teaching in person on campus.
