Job summary

Interact Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Minnesota is hiring an On-Call Visual Arts Substitute Art Instructor to fill in on an as-needed basis to support the daily operation of a professional art studio by assisting artists with their creative goals, providing hands-on support, and helping maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment.

The role requires an associate’s degree or higher, at least 6 months of studio experience, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Qualifications

  • An associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and life experience.
  • Experience in a fully equipped art studio (minimum 6 months).
  • Knowledge of the human services nonprofit sector preferred.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations and providing client care.

Responsibilities

  • Proactively assist in the facilitation of daily artistic programming with the department team of other staff artists.
  • Assist client artists with their daily artistic needs in accordance with their goals and support plans.
  • Support artists in maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Serve as a substitute art instructor for artists enrolled in the Visual Arts program.
  • Support a group of 6 to 12 studio artists depending on staffing needs.
  • Implement studio activities and maintain professional standards.
  • Participate in studio activities, including art exhibitions, as available.
  • Staff gallery shows and community art events or field trips as available.
  • Work shifts for special events outside regular hours (fundraising, performances, exhibitions).
  • Participate in required social services and state licensing training.
  • Follow policies to ensure clients are safe and supported.
  • Assist clients with personal needs, including toileting, if required.

With over 100 artists working in theater and studio arts, Interact is multi-cultural, intergenerational, and embraces the entire spectrum of disability labels.

Wages

$18.00 - $20.00 per hour depending on qualifications and level of experience

Job Summary

Responsibilities

  • Assist client artists with their daily artistic needs in accordance with their artistic goals and support plans.
  • Support artists in maintaining a safe and supportive environment.
  • Serve as a substitute art instructor for artists enrolled in the Visual Arts program.
  • Support a group of 6 to 12 studio artists depending on daily staffing needs.
  • Implement studio activities and maintain rigorous professional standards.
  • Participate in implementing studio activities, including art exhibitions, as available.
  • Staff art gallery shows and community art events or field trips, as available.
  • Work retail gallery shifts for special events outside regular working hours (Fundraising Events, Interact Performances and Exhibitions, Holiday Art Sale, etc.) as available.
  • Participate in all required social services and state licensing training.
  • Follow all policies and procedures to ensure clients are always in a safe and supportive environment.
  • Assist clients with personal needs, including toileting, if required.
What You Bring
  • An associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or demonstrably equivalent knowledge gained through alternative courses of study and life experience.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience working in a fully equipped art studio.
  • Knowledge of the human services nonprofit sector; experience working in a nonprofit setting is preferred.
  • A minimum of 6 months of experience working with vulnerable populations and providing client care.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with the ability to collaborate effectively in a creative environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for interacting with artists, families, healthcare professionals, community agencies, and government units.
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills to effectively plan programming and coordinate communications.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency with the ability to work respectfully with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
  • A commitment to person-centered care, including a willingness to assist clients with personal care needs as required.
  • Knowledge of American Sign Language (ASL) is preferred but not required.
  • Applicants must comply with and pass a Minnesota Department of Human Services background check (Rule 11).
