Job summary

Interact Center for Visual and Performing Arts in Saint Paul, MN seeks an On-Call Visual Arts Substitute Art Instructor to support daily studio operation and assist artists with their creative goals. The role is part-time and on-site, with varying hours to fit programming and events.

The position requires an associate’s or higher degree, 6 months of studio experience, strong communication and teamwork, and a commitment to inclusive, person-centered care. ASL is optional. Background checks apply.

Qualifications

• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree or equivalent knowledge.
• Minimum 6 months of experience in a fully equipped art studio.
• Nonprofit sector experience preferred (human services).
• Minimum 6 months’ experience with vulnerable populations and client care.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with diverse stakeholders.
• Strong administrative and organizational skills.
• Cultural competency with diverse backgrounds.
• Willingness to provide personal care as required.
• ASL knowledge preferred but not required.
• Background check per Minnesota DHS Rule 11.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate daily artistic programming with staff artists.
• Assist clients with daily artistic needs per goals and support plans.
• Maintain a safe, supportive environment for artists.
• Serve as substitute art instructor for Visual Arts program.
• Support 6–12 studio artists daily.
• Implement studio activities and uphold professional standards.
• Participate in exhibitions and events when available.
• Staff art gallery shows and community events or field trips.
• Work retail gallery shifts for special events as available.
• Complete required social services and state licensing training.
• Follow policies to ensure clients are safe and supported.
• Assist clients with personal needs including toileting if required.
