Job summary

The Exploratorium in San Francisco is seeking an On-Call Research and Evaluation Assistant to support visitor learning and evaluation of exhibits and programs. You will interview visitors, record interviews and survey responses, obtain consent for audio and video, and help enter and code data.

You report to the Manager of Visitor Research and Evaluation. Strong communication, attention to detail, and the ability to follow directions are required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• Strong communication, listening, and attention to detail.
• Able to follow directions from senior staff.
• Interest or experience in evaluation or learning research.
• Experience with iPads, Excel, Word; Qualtrics is a plus.
• Willingness to set up and troubleshoot audio/video data collection.
• Flexibility to work up to 20 hours per week; evenings/weekends possible.

Responsibilities

• Conduct open-ended and semi-structured interviews with visitors using questions provided by senior research staff.
• Generate appropriate non-leading questions to clarify responses.
• Solicit written consent from visitors to be audio/video recorded.
• Audio and video record visitors using a multiple camera system and troubleshoot as needed.
• Store and manipulate audio and video files and documents per protocols.
• Input visitor interview data into spreadsheets and code/score data.
• Assist in improving evaluation instruments and methods.
• Other duties as assigned.
