Job summary

Central Michigan University is seeking a Supervisor / Architectural Trades to lead and coordinate carpentry, painting, locksmith, and masonry activities for campus facilities. The role also directs roofing-related projects and requires on-call responsiveness for emergencies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completed apprenticeship in carpentry, painting, locksmithing, masonry or commercial roofing.
• Six years of related carpentry/maintenance/roofing experience.
• Two years supervisory experience, preferably union setting.
• Valid driver's license.
• Understanding of commercial roofing systems (TPO, built-up, etc.).
• Knowledge of materials, tools and equipment for campus facilities maintenance.
• Ability to read blueprints and plan work.
• Willingness to be on-call and work varied shifts.
• Strong communication and leadership abilities.

Responsibilities

• Develop plans and programs to improve assigned areas.
• Supervise skilled, semi-skilled, temporary and student workers; hire/train/evaluate staff; address grievances and discipline as needed.
• Coordinate work with other trades supervisors to complete jobs efficiently.
• Procure and track materials for work orders and clarify workloads with originators.
• Oversee operation/maintenance of shop equipment and vehicles.
• Manage budgeted funds for assigned areas and maintain balance.
• Organize roof maintenance programs for university facilities.
• Oversee locksmith shop security and master key approvals.
• Plan painting programs and masonry maintenance/repairs.
• Supervise carpentry, maintenance, renovations, and upgrades of CMU facilities.
