Job summary

The Archdiocese of St. Louis Catholic Education and Formation is seeking a Substitute Teacher to cover classes when the regular teacher is absent.

You will follow lesson plans, supervise students, and ensure continuity across grade levels, reporting to the principal. The role requires delivering instruction, managing behavior, engaging students, and assessing progress while adhering to health and safety protocols.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
• Licensing/Certification: A teaching certification or substitute teacher permit may be required.
• Experience: Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred but not always required.

Responsibilities

• Follow the lesson plan provided by the absent teacher or school administration.
• Deliver instructional content to students using the appropriate materials, tools, and resources.
• Adapt lessons and activities as needed to meet the needs of students.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and productive classroom environment.
• Enforce school rules and policies to ensure the smooth functioning of the class.
• Manage student behavior and address any disruptions using appropriate methods.
• Actively engage students in learning activities to encourage participation.
• Provide guidance and support to students to help them understand the material.
• Monitor student progress and provide feedback as directed by the lesson plan.
• Administer quizzes, tests, and other assessments if needed.
• Submit completed work and any necessary reports to the regular teacher or school administration.
• Communicate effectively with students, school staff, and administrators.
• Report any issues or incidents during the day, such as conflicts or accidents, to the appropriate personnel.
• Ensure the physical and emotional safety of students at all times.
• Follow any specific health, safety, or emergency protocols as required by the school.
