Job summary

City of Avondale, AZ is seeking a Maintenance Worker to operate and maintain equipment for repairing roadways, sidewalks, and rights‑of‑way as part of daily labor tasks. The role requires teamwork and adherence to safety standards in a dynamic municipal setting, with opportunities to advance safety certifications.

Qualifications

• A High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• One (1) year of experience in construction or maintenance-related fields.
• A valid Arizona Operator’s Driver's License or the ability to obtain at the time of hire.
• Certifications/licenses to be obtained within twelve (12) months of hire: Work Zone Traffic Control Certification, Certified Flagger.
• Applicator License with categories of Right-of-Way and Turn/Ornamental is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Maintains roadways by cleaning away debris and waste, repairing potholes, crack sealing, and road patching with hot asphalt.
• Maintains and repairs streets, parking lots, curbs, gutters and sidewalks, and ADA compliant ramps.
• Performs skilled landscape construction, maintenance, and repair work; maintains rights-of-way landscape, undeveloped properties, and alleys; trims trees and applies herbicides.
• Operates service trucks, gas-powered machines, lift gates, landscape equipment, and power tools; documents work orders in software; sets up traffic control/work zones; maintains vehicles and equipment.
• Follows safety rules; keeps area and equipment in safe condition; reports hazards and emergencies.
