Job summary

Newport News Behavioral Health Center is seeking an on-call Substitute Teacher to plan and deliver instruction for students in a highly structured residential program for youths aged 11–18. The role includes coordinating with teachers, documenting progress, and supporting transition planning to meet individualized education goals.

The ideal candidate will have a preferred Bachelor’s degree and knowledge of Virginia SPED regulations, IEP development, and behavior management techniques.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
• Knowledge of Virginia Special Education regulations, IEP development and behavior management techniques preferred.
• Demonstrate ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
• Prefer at least 2 years of substitute teaching experience at middle or high school level.

Responsibilities

• Plan and provide instruction for students assigned to the classroom.
• Participate in departmental meetings and complete paperwork related to assessment and IEPs.
• Monitor student progress and report progress and transitions as related to educational needs.
• Provide education case management and maintain communication with families and involved agencies.
