Job summary

NYC Health + Hospitals seeks a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner (SAFE) to join the Sexual Assault Response Team. Under clinical oversight, the SAFE performs forensic evidence collection, ensures quality and chain of custody, and delivers compassionate, patient-centered care to those reporting sexual assault.

The role requires responding within 60 minutes of on-call notification, documenting findings, and coordinating care and follow-up with appropriate teams and law enforcement as needed.

Qualifications

• Valid New York State license and registration to practice in one of the allowed roles (RN/NP/PA/MD).
• One year of clinical post-licensure experience required; SAFE certification within 12 months if not already.
• Completion of a Sexual Assault Forensic Examiner training program approved by NYSDOH.

Responsibilities

• Respond to SAFE-designated sites within the borough within 60 minutes when on call.
• Obtain informed consent and collect forensic evidence following chain-of-custody protocols.
• Document findings and complete relevant assessment forms and CVB claims.
• Provide patient-centered care, health teaching, and crisis intervention while supporting the patient.
