Job summary

Topeka Public Schools is seeking a PRN Bus Driver to provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation for students on designated routes and activities.

You will work under the Transportation Supervisor, ensuring compliance with state school transportation guidelines, performing pre-trip checks, and assisting students in getting on and off the bus. This on-call position requires flexibility across the school year.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Kansas CDL with required endorsements. (90 days to obtain)
• Must have a current TB test.
• Meet all state requirements for bus drivers, including Defensive Driving, CPR, and First Aid Certification.
• At least one year of experience in driving some type of motor vehicle, including seasons.
• Successfully complete behind-the-wheel training.

Responsibilities

• Provide clean, safe, and reliable transportation to ensure students benefit from district programs and activities.
• Ensure all activities conform to state school transportation guidelines.
• Transport students to and from designated school activities.
• Before stopping, operate stop sign and flashing lights on bus to alert traffic.
• Help disabled children get on and off the bus.
• Ensure children stay in their seats at all times.
• Maintain discipline when students are on the bus.
• Notify proper authority in case of mechanical failure or lateness.
• Discharge students only at authorized stops.
• Implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.
• Perform other tasks as directed by Transportation Supervisor.
