Job summary

Monmouth University is seeking an On-Call Vessel Captain in the School of Science to operate and maintain university vessels and to support student training and research.

The role involves field operations, occasional nighttime work, and coordination with researchers. Knowledge of hydrographic and GPS survey methods, marine instrumentation, and vessel safety is essential. This is an in-person, on-campus position in New Jersey.

Qualifications

• Experience as captain or senior crew on research, commercial, or military vessel.
• Hold a USCG Master – Near Coastal, 100-ton license.
• TWIC credential.
• First Aid, CPR, AED training.
• Valid driver’s license with clean record.
• STCW basic credential or obtain within 6 months of hire.
• Vessel trailering capabilities up to 30 ft.
• Physical ability for field work and lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Evenings, weekends and extended hours as needed.

Responsibilities

• Oversee operation, maintenance, servicing and repair of University vessels, vehicles and trailers.
• Other duties as assigned.
