Job summary

Pacific University is seeking an on-call Substitute Teacher for the Early Learning Community on the Forest Grove campus. The role involves supervising a mixed-age group of 20 children and implementing plan-guided or play-based activities to foster learning.

Ideal candidates have prior substitute teaching experience in licensed settings, strong English communication, and a reliable, flexible approach to hours.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Must be enrolled in the Department of Early Learning and Care's (DELC's) Central Background Registry.
• Must have a minimum of 6 months working in a licensed group care environment with at least 10 toddler, preschool, or early elementary level.
• Able to sit, bend and lift up to 50 pounds and move quickly around a classroom and playground.
• Demonstrated ability to manage a group of at least 10 children during unstructured play to ensure safety and support conflict resolution.
• Strong oral English communication skills.
• High degree of reliability and commitment to work hours scheduled.
• Can establish and maintain pleasant, effective working relationships with children and colleagues.
• Flexibility of hours as this is an on-call position; substitutes may be contacted weeks or months in advance or on the day-of.
• Able to work independently with a high degree of confidentiality.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate learning experiences as outlined in substitute plans or directed by the assistant teacher.
• Interact with children in ways that respect individuality and nurture growth across domains.
• Communicate questions, concerns, or feedback to families via the Assistant Teacher and Head of School.
• Assist with maintaining orderliness and a positive environment within the facility.
• Maintain positive relationships with children, teachers and visitors in the Early Learning Community.
