Job summary

Houston Methodist Hospital is seeking a Transporter to move acute and critical care patients by wheelchair, stretcher or bed. The role supports the interprofessional team, assists with patient transfers to testing and treatment areas, and helps with safety and infection control during transport.

Required/preferred qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent and BLS certification within 90 days, plus strong communication and patient-service skills necessary to ensure safe, timely

Qualifications

• Demonstrates the skills and competencies necessary to safely perform the assigned job
• Sufficient proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing English to perform essential functions
• Ability to communicate with patients, physicians, family members and co-workers with customer service focus
• Knowledge of stretchers, wheelchairs, IV pumps and beds for safety
• Knowledge of isolation, infection control and safety procedures with universal precautions

Responsibilities

• Communicates delays to Nursing, Imaging and other departments and supports team
• Interacts positively with patients and guests and upholds a professional department image
• Trains and orients new transporters and participates in performance improvements
• Documents assignments completely per department protocol
• Notifies staff of patient transport needs and verifies patient identity during handoffs
