Job summary

Cortland is seeking a Maintenance Technician to keep our multifamily communities safe, functional, and well‑maintained. You will diagnose and repair electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, and other building systems, while supporting preventative maintenance and asset preservation.

Strong communication with residents and property teams is essential. Role requires EPA certification, a high school diploma, 1–3+ years of experience, and willingness to participate in on‑call rotations.

Qualifications

• EPA certification required (Type I, II, or Universal).
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1–3+ years of maintenance experience in multi‑family housing.
• Strong technical skills in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and general building systems.
• Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple work orders.
• Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to safely operate tools and maintenance equipment.
• Good communication and customer‑service skills.
• Physically capable of lifting, climbing ladders, and working indoors/outdoors.
• Willingness to participate in on‑call rotations and emergencies.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, repair, and resolve maintenance issues involving electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, flooring, stairs, railings, and other building components.
• Correct unsafe conditions such as broken lights, damaged gates, open holes, or other hazards.
• Support asset preservation by monitoring and reporting on the condition of building and security systems.
• Schedule and perform preventative maintenance on HVAC units and building systems.
• Maintain inventory of supplies and spare parts to complete work orders.
• Respond to on‑call rotations and emergency maintenance situations.
• Provide friendly, professional service to residents and team members.
• Document completed work and report recurring issues to supervision.
