Job summary

Self Help Inc. is seeking a Substitute Head Start Preschool Bus Driver to provide on-call coverage for preschool transportation, ensuring safe and compliant operation of Head Start routes in southeastern Massachusetts.

The role requires a valid MA CDL Class B with S and P endorsements, DESE School Bus Driver Certificate, and current First Aid/CPR, with a focus on safety and reliable communication with families and staff.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Massachusetts CDL Class B with S (School Bus) and P (Passenger) endorsements required.
• Massachusetts DESE School Bus Driver Certificate required (or able to obtain on hire).
• Current First Aid and CPR certification required.
• 3+ years of licensed driving with clean record required.

Responsibilities

• Provide on-call coverage for Head Start bus routes when drivers are absent.
• Operate Head Start bus safely, following laws and policies.
• Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicle safety equipment.
• Report mechanical defects promptly to Transportation Specialist.
• Oversee safe loading/unloading of children with bus monitor assistance.
• Follow Head Start policies and respond to emergencies as needed.
