Camp Arnold is a Christian camp owned and operated by The Salvation Army. Our mission is to use nature and the great outdoors to share the gospel of Jesus Christ, teach environmental awareness, encourage pro‑social behavior, and safely provide opportunity for every camper to have fun and adventure.
Scope of Position
Host and coordinate rental groups, ensuring all logistic arrangements between camp and guest groups during their stay are handled flexibly and accommodatingly. Provide consistent, quality service to uphold the camp’s reputation.
Specific Duties – Pre‑Arrival Checklist
- Ensure readiness of all camp facilities for incoming rental groups.
- Make sure radios are charged.
- Verify water and power are on in buildings in use.
- Set heaters and thermostats.
- Turn on porch lights and check cabin lights; replace as needed.
- Check toilet paper and paper towel supplies in all used buildings.
- Ensure trash cans and waste baskets have liners.
- Prep beverage counter, stocked and cleaned half an hour before arrival.
- Prepare maps and registration area one hour before expected arrival.
- Orient retreat staff to policies and emergency procedures.
- Provide radio instructions or cell phone contact; give group leader gate code.
- Orient the whole group at the first meeting to camp policies and emergency procedures.
Specific Duties – Meal Times
- Be in dining room 45 minutes before the start of each meal to assist with table set‑up.
- Resupply and clean beverage counter.
- Check with retreat staff at each meal for assistance needs.
- Instruct group on dining room procedures at first meal.
- Assist in serving the meal as needed by the cook.
- Do dishes if dishwashers are not scheduled.
- Check and clean public bathroom areas.
- Reset meeting areas and verify cleanliness.
Specific Duties – Troubleshooting
- Be available and inform retreat staff of your location.
- Check in with retreat staff periodically for assistance.
- Fix and repair problems promptly; if unable, contact someone who can help.
- Inform retreat staff when a problem is repaired or action is underway.
- Monitor the group’s schedule for special requests.
- Answer the camp phone and deliver messages if no one is in the office.
- At 10:00 pm, make rounds, turn lights off in unused areas, and remind the group of the “last one out” policy.
Specific Duties – Checkout Protocol
- Review and make recommendations to Guest Services Manager.
- Walk through cabins, note any damage, and report to Guest Services Manager for billing.
Specific Duties – Camp Close‑Down
- Turn off all lights, adjust heaters, and lock doors in lodging.
- Turn off lights, heaters, and lock the gym and other meeting rooms.
- Turn off lights, heat, shut windows, and lock doors in dining and other used buildings.
- Remove remaining trash to the dumpster.
- Prepare and file a written debrief for each user group, documenting problems or repairs for the Operations Manager.
- Turn off kitchen lights and lock the kitchen.
Miscellaneous Duties
- Build a fire in the campfire pit or fireside room.
- Shuttle coffee to meeting rooms.
- Locate sports equipment.
- Reset tables and chairs.
- Assist the Guest Services Coordinator with additional duties to maintain consistent operational efficiency.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, and reach overhead.
- Ability to operate telephone.
- Ability to operate a desktop or laptop computer.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to access and produce information from a computer.
- Ability to understand written information.
