Job summary

Sarasota County Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated forensic investigator to conduct field and laboratory examinations, develop and preserve evidence, and maintain meticulous chain-of-custody records. The role requires strong written and verbal communication, the ability to testify in court, and the capacity to work extended shifts and on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or higher in crime scene technology, forensic science, or related field with 4+ years of related work experience, OR Bachelor’s degree or higher with 2+ years.
• Be able to be trained to competency to complete administrative and technical reviews, train new hire employees, complete validation studies, assist with reviewing/revising unit SOPs.

Responsibilities

• Conducts forensic investigations in the field and laboratory, develops and preserves evidence, documents chain of custody, and prepares reports for court.
• Attend autopsies to photograph, collect, document, and package evidence and testify in depositions and court.
• Maintain casework confidentiality and demonstrate strong written and verbal communication with colleagues and the community.
