Job summary

Stantec is seeking on-call Paleontological Technicians for short- and long-term projects, performing construction monitoring, field surveys, fossil collection, and data collection. Flexibility is key, with projects requiring quick response to staffing needs.

Requirements include a bachelor’s or master’s degree in paleontology, geology, or biology, at least 2 years of field experience, and the ability to travel. Night work and outdoor field conditions are expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in paleontology, geology, or biology with field training in paleontology and sedimentary geology.
• Minimum of 2 years’ field experience in paleontology and sedimentary geology; can substitute for academic training.
• Previous paleontological construction monitoring experience is desirable, but training will be provided if lacking.
• Travel is required.
• Night work is required.
• Outdoor work in rough terrain and varying weather; ability to exert physical effort (lift 50 lb occasionally, 20 lb frequently, 10 lb constantly).

Responsibilities

• Detailed and accurate field data collection and daily progress reports (using Stantec’s data collection system) with emphasis on stratigraphic documentation.
• Communicate with supervisors responsively and follow instructions.
• Assist with drafting portions of reports as required.
• Adhere to ethical practices and safety procedures.
• Maintain professionalism with colleagues and clients at all times.
• Respect and comply with project mandates and reporting standards.
