On‑Call Facility Worker
Department: Operations. Reports to: Operations Coordinator. FLSA Status: Hourly, Non‑Exempt.
Overview
The On‑Call Facility Worker, under the general supervision of the Foreperson, performs routine facility housekeeping, custodial services, snow removal, grounds services, room cleanliness and set/tear‑down functions to provide a superior experience for Lansing Center properties and equipment pertaining to the operations of Lansing Center facilities and events.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for housekeeping, interior and exterior custodial services, grounds services, room cleanliness, and event set‑up and tear‑down as indicated on banquet event work orders (BEOs).
- Assist with directing the work activities of on‑call Facility Workers in the absence of a full‑time Facility Worker or Foreperson.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, respectful work environment free of harassment and ensuring compliance with all Legends Global policies, applicable OSHA standards, and local, state, and federal laws, including the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
- Assist with maintaining accurate and timely inventory control measures for custodial and housekeeping equipment and supplies.
- Assist with maintaining and utilizing all housekeeping, custodial, and room/event set‑up tools, equipment, and supplies in proper and safe working conditions.
- Assist in maintaining safe, orderly, and organized supply and equipment storage areas.
- Assist in the hands‑on training of facility personnel in accordance with established organizational and departmental guidelines and procedures.
- Assist with regular inspections and evaluations of facilities and equipment and communicate findings and observations to supervisors to support a high level of facility functionality, appearance, and efficiency.
- Ensure the safe operating conditions of all facilities tools, machinery, equipment, methods, and materials in accordance with Operations Department and Legends Global facilities guidelines.
- Properly wear required safety equipment and operate all tools and machinery in compliance with manufacturer guidelines.
- Conduct routine checks for potential hazards and equipment malfunctions.
- Provide input and recommendations regarding equipment, materials, and supplies needed to support housekeeping, custodial, and event set‑up and tear‑down services.
- Read, interpret, and apply information from banquet event work orders to ensure clients receive requested services within specified timeframes.
- Perform set‑up and tear‑down of tables, chairs, staging, and other required equipment to complete room configurations as directed.
- Positively assist customers, the public, and other departments in coordinating the delivery of daily operational services.
- Promptly notify the supervisor on duty of any client or guest issues.
- Adhere to departmental dress code standards.
- Demonstrate proper utilization and working knowledge of tools, methods, and materials related to the Operations Facility Department.
- Participate in committees and meetings as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of general and preventative maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and building management systems.
- Work irregular schedules as required, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Maintain effective communication channels with all internal departments and operational teams as needed.
- Adhere to all Legends Global administrative policies, procedures, rules, and programs, as well as those of the Operations Department.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
- Handle multiple tasks simultaneously while using hands to perform required job duties.
- Communicate clearly, understand, and carry out directions and instructions; speak professionally and listen attentively.
- Interact with difficult individuals in a professional and tactful manner while maintaining a cheerful and positive presence despite internal or external pressures.
- Adjust focus as needed and look at a computer monitor for extended periods of time.
- Maintain confidentiality and operate a keyboard effectively.
- Lift up to 75 pounds occasionally, with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time and perform frequent bending, kneeling, twisting, lifting, reaching, squatting, and climbing, including climbing stairs.
- Possess a valid Michigan Operator’s License when driving is required to perform job‑related tasks.
- Continuously monitor surroundings visually and audibly for potential hazards and equipment malfunctions.
- Work in confined spaces, tolerate working at heights, and safely operate equipment including bucket trucks, scissor lifts, forklifts, auto scrubbers, ladders, and job‑specific hand and power tools.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent GED.
- Minimum of two years of experience in custodial services, housekeeping and/or special event set‑up/tear‑down.
- Strong decision‑making skills and enthusiasm for Legends Global.
- Maintain adequate supply levels and interact positively with others.
- Knowledge of organizational and departmental operational rules, procedures, and programs and flexibility in meeting operational needs.
- Ability to address Operations Department and facility‑related questions and ensure accuracy of add‑on sheets.
- Basic knowledge of event coordination and management and ability to obtain a valid license for the operation of heavy machinery and equipment.
- Diagramming, building, setting up, and tearing down staging, and operating basic custodial equipment and tools.
- Understanding of basic housekeeping and custodial terminology and routine maintenance and repair of operational services equipment.
- Knowledge of rigging standards and safety, commercial building systems, trade skills, facility grounds keeping, plumbing, and mechanical repairs for a variety of operational services equipment.
- Adherence to safety practices and procedures; knowledge of general and preventative maintenance and repair of facilities, equipment, and building management systems.
- Basic math skills and ability to operate a tractor or plow.
- Assist with snow and ice removal.
- Accurate and safe use of hand and power tools and strong teamwork and cooperation.
- Professional, positive attitude and demeanor, consistent and timely attendance.
- Work with minimal direction, excellent interpersonal skills, clear organization, effective verbal, listening, and written English skills.
- Consistently meet deadlines.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
Location: On Site.
Must safely perform duties in an outdoor golf‑course environment and withstand the physical demands of inclement weather and varying environmental conditions.
Exposure to oils, greases, solvents, chemicals, cold, heat, rain, dust, noise, fumes, food allergens, wet floors, water, cleaning agents, and other outdoor and environmental allergens.
Requirements include the ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally, lift and carry objects up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist, lift, reach, squat, climb stairs, work in confined spaces, at heights, and operate bucket trucks, scissor lifts, forklifts, auto scrubbers, ladders, and hand and power tools.
