Job summary

Washington State Department of Veterans Affairs (WDVA) seeks an On-Call Custodian 1 for the Spokane Veterans Home. The role involves a variety of custodial tasks, routine cleaning, and intermittent shifts to support operational staffing needs within a 24/7 facility.

The on-call position requires flexibility, ability to pass a background check, and adherence to safety and infection-control standards. This role offers a pathway into state employment with rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Excellent listening skills and ability to work with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds.
• Maintain quality, safety and infection-control standards.
• Physical ability to perform required custodial duties.
• Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures.
• Ability to read and understand written instructions and perform basic arithmetic.

Responsibilities

• Provide custodial cleaning in assigned areas, resident rooms and common spaces.
• Vacuum carpets and perform carpet care as needed.
• Disinfect, mop, and perform stripping/waxing as required.
• Keep baseboards, fixtures and receptacles clean and odor-free.
• Restock supplies and maintain custodial cart with necessary equipment.
• Support nursing/food service staff with cleanliness in dining areas.
