Job summary

Connecticut College is seeking an On Call Custodian to perform custodial maintenance across campus facilities. Responsibilities include dusting, mopping, restoring floors, vacuuming carpets, cleaning restrooms, restocking supplies, and assisting with ice, snow and debris removal as needed.

The role requires lifting up to 50 pounds, operating cleaning equipment, and maintaining safety procedures while providing dependable service.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Dust, sweep, mop and vacuum and strip and wax floors, stairways and corridors.
• Determine type of chemicals and equipment for cleaning tasks.
• Clean restrooms and restock supplies.
• Perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and maintain/order supplies.
• Empty trash and proper disposal.
• Clean windows and other items as assigned or needed.
• Lock/unlock doors; ensure security when leaving.
• Set up rooms for functions via work orders.
• Promote safety and environmental practices in the workplace.
• Assist with ice, snow and debris removal.
• Operate a service vehicle as required.
• Available for call back and overtime as required.
• Other duties as assigned.

General Scope of Duties

Perform custodial maintenance duties including dusting, mopping, finishing and buffing floors, vacuuming and shampooing carpets, cleaning and restocking restrooms, and assist with ice, snow and other debris removal activities.

• Determine type of chemicals and equipment necessary for specific cleaning tasks
• Clean restrooms and restock paper and soap supplies
• Perform routine maintenance to custodial equipment and maintain/order supplies
• Empty trash receptacles and bag trash for proper disposal
• Clean windows, walls, furniture and other items as assigned or as necessary
• Properly lock and unlock doors for cleaning purposes; ensure all windows and doors are secured as appropriate when leaving
• Set up rooms for various functions using a work order for direction
• Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices
• Assist with ice, snow and other debris removal activities
• Operate a service vehicle as required to perform duties
• Available for call back and scheduled overtime, as required
• Other duties as assigned or as necessary

Education and Skills

• Ability to lift/push/pull 50 pounds.
• A combination of education and experience that provides a demonstrated knowledge of custodial duties
• Ability to effectively and safely operate a variety of tools and equipment necessary to carry out assignments including buffers, carpet shampooer and various types of vacuums
• Ability to communicate effectively, read work orders and understand safety procedures
• Ability to safely use chemicals required for the job
• Able to work independently with little direction
• Well-organized, able to work under pressure
• Ability to interact well with a variety of people from all aspects of the college and community
