The American Cancer Society is seeking a Concierge to be the first point of contact for guests, manage front desk operations, and ensure a welcoming, safe environment at our lodge in Iowa City. The role supports check-in/out, information provision, transportation coordination, and safety protocols.
The position is on-call/as-needed with shifts including first and second shifts, hours varying by staffing needs, and weekend availability required.

The Concierge serves as the first point of contact for guests, managing front desk operations and ensuring a welcoming, safe, and supportive environment. This role assists with guest check-in/out, responds to inquiries, and coordinates transportation and security.
The pay rate will be $19.50/hr. This is an on-call, as-needed position. Hours are not guaranteed and will vary based on staffing needs, including coverage for vacations, call-offs, planned time off, and unexpected absences. The primary coverage need is for 1st Shift (approximately 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM) and 2nd Shift (approximately 3:00 PM – 11:00 PM). Occasional overnight coverage may also be available. Weekend availability is required, and candidates should ideally be able to support both daytime and evening shifts.
Depending on the shift being covered, responsibilities may also include communicating room turnovers to housekeeping, accepting and processing referrals from the social work team, verifying guest eligibility, sending background-check information, conducting new-guest tours, supporting EMPOWER activities, and entering guest or program information into lodge systems.
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Additional education or training in hospitality management or customer service is a plus.
Previous experience in hospitality, guest services, or a related field is preferred.
Minimum 1 year of Customer Service Experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently and multitask
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and multi-line phone systems
Excellent customer service and problem-solving skills
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends
Comfortable learning ACS systems and completing accurate computer-based documentation
Dependable and responsive when providing on-call coverage
Minimal travel required
The role may require extended periods of standing and walking, particularly during front desk duties and while assisting guests. Occasional lifting and moving of luggage, packages, or other items may be necessary when assisting guests with check-in, check-out, or transportation. Some manual tasks, such as carrying luggage or opening doors for guests, may be required during guest interactions. The role may involve physical endurance to handle the demands of a fast-paced environment, including managing multiple tasks and assisting guests throughout the day.
