Job summary

HANAC, Inc. offers a CDL Driver substitute position in Astoria, NY. The role provides transportation for older adults for shopping, events, and community activities, with on-call/as-needed hours and a $24.00 hourly rate.

Responsibilities include safe transport, assisting passengers, completing logs, collecting contributions, and basic admin tasks. Vehicle maintenance and safety are required daily, with English literacy and computer use as prerequisites.

Qualifications

• Valid NYS Commercial Driver’s License with Passenger Endorsements and 1+ years of driving experience.
• Commercial driving experience preferred.
• DOT medical certificate with yearly drug testing.
• Ability to read, write and speak in English,
• Must be able to use computer (Office, Adobe, Google workspace), and office equipment.
• Bilingual in Spanish or Greek is desirable, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Safely transport older adults to and from group trips as scheduled.
• Assist clients onto and off the van, when necessary, and determine need.
• Ensure safety on board by using seatbelts and safety devices.
• Legibly complete passenger log daily.
• Collect participants’ contributions daily.
• Perform administrative tasks in the office when required including answering the phone and coordinating with car services.
• Maintain vehicle in clean and operating condition.
• Inspect vehicle daily and report defects to supervisor.
• Sanitize the bus after each trip and oversee routine maintenance.
