Job summary

Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh is hiring for a Banquet Server to ensure timely food/beverage service for hotel functions. You will handle plated meals, buffets, beverages and assist with setup, maintaining high guest satisfaction and professional standards.

Strong communication and teamwork are essential, with certifications required and availability for mornings, nights, weekends and holidays. Previous hospitality experience is preferred and you will operate within liquor liability

Responsibilities

  • Perform all Banquet side-work as designated by the Banquet Captain.
  • Serve plated meals, buffet items and beverages in a fast-paced environment.
  • Greet guests, answer questions about menus, and respond to special requests promptly.
  • Attend to all guest needs during functions and related duties.
  • Report to Banquet Manager any housekeeping or equipment needs.

Purpose

To ensure that all food and beverage service for functions in the banquet department of the hotel are served on time. To ensure the highest guest satisfaction, maintain professional standards and work flexible hours.

Essential Functions
  • Perform all Banquet side-work as designated by the Banquet Captain.
  • Efficiently and properly perform all service standards.
  • Serving plated meals, buffet items and beverages, including alcoholic beverages, efficiently in a fast paced environment.
  • Greeting guests, answering questions about menus, and responding to special requests promptly.
  • Possess a polite, friendly demeanor and a professional appearance
  • Attend to all needs of the guests during functions and function related duties.
  • Report to Banquet Manager any need for housekeeping and/or repairs of and banquet equipment.
  • Assist in the upkeep and organization of all liquor liability laws.
  • Must be familiar with and adhere to all liquor liability laws.
  • Must attend all designated pre-meal meetings.
  • Arranging linens, cutlery, china/plates and glassware according to the Banquet Event Order (BEO)
  • Must have strong communication skills, teamwork and the ability to follow instructions
  • Previous Food service or hospitality preferred
  • Must be flexible and available for early mornings, nights, weekends and holidays
  • Must be RAMP certified
  • Must be ServSafe certified
Tools and Equipment
  • Coffee maker/urn, toaster, microwave, beverage machines, bus trays, dishware, silverware, glassware, queen-mary cart
Working Environment
  • Interior of hotel, in the restaurant, lounge and kitchen areas, with exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • Exposure to Food and Beverage hazardous cleaning chemicals.
  • Exposure to food items and beverages.
Physical Job Requirements (for essential functions only)
Lifting/Pushing/Pulling/ Carrying
  • Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
  • Lifting 30 - 50 pounds (Trays, dish racks, glass racks, etc)
  • Pushing 50 -100 pounds (Carts, queen marys, hot box, portable bar, etc)
  • Carrying 20 - 40 pounds (Trays, dish racks, glass racks, etc)
Bending/Kneeling
  • Ability to bend to lower-level cabinets and banquet storage room
  • Bend to lift trays
Mobility
  • Maneuver in narrow areas and between seated guests
  • Distance 110 ft - 100% of the work period
Continuous Standing
  • Standing required to service guest(s) functions; 100% of time scheduled
Climbing
  • Climbing stairs up to approximately 12 steps 20% of work period (approximately 8 hours)
Driving
  • No driving required
Work Environment
  • Inside 95% of work period (usually 8 hours)
  • Outside 5% of work period (usually 8 hours)
Hearing/Vision/Speech/Literacy
  • Hearing is moderate (Communicate with supervisor, co-workers, guests)
  • Vision is moderate (View set-up, serve guests)
  • Speech is moderate (Communicate with supervisor, co-workers, guests)
  • Literacy is moderate (Read and understand instructions on BEO's)
Chemical/Agents Used
  • Cleaning agents for silver, stainless steel and floor surfaces 30% of time
Protective Clothing
  • Slip-resistant footwear must be worn 100% of scheduled shift
Equipment Operation
  • Coffee machine, ice machine, refrigerator, vacuum cleaners
Other Considerations

Must present RAMP and ServSafe Certifications upon hire

$7.08 hourly rate
