Job summary

Terracon in Tempe, AZ is seeking an Archaeology Field Technician to support surveys, testing and excavations while documenting findings. The position requires adherence to strict safety standards and the ability to work outdoors in remote locations.

Responsibilities include assisting with fieldwork, artifact collection and basic documentation, using standard tools under supervision, and maintaining equipment. Occasional travel and long days in rugged terrain are expected.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in archaeology/anthropology.
  • Completion of an archaeological field school from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
  • Basic knowledge of artifact identification, soils, and stratigraphy.
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Able to use Global Positioning Systems.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable violation history.

  • Be responsible for maintaining quality standards on all projects.
  • Responsible for assisting with archaeological fieldwork, such as survey, excavation, artifact collection and basic documentation.
  • Conduct archaeological surveys or excavations using common archaeological tools and methods under the supervision of a Crew Chief or higher.
  • Identify artifacts and basic stratigraphy, recording information on standardized forms.
  • Assist more senior staff with other tasks as needed.
  • Maintain equipment.
  • Communicate basic information to Crew Chief or Archaeologist.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Work outdoors in remote locations.
  • Walk up to 10 miles per day over steep terrain for prolonged periods.
  • Conduct fieldwork in various environments, including extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and rugged terrain.
  • Carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Be willing to travel and work out of town as needed.
