Job summary

Town of Woodbury CT is seeking an Assistant Animal Control Officer to support weekends and holidays on an on-call basis, with coverage for the full-time Officer. You will enforce animal laws, perform field and office duties, and help maintain the Town’s Animal Shelter.

Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma, CT ACO certification (or willingness to obtain within one year), be physically capable of handling large animals, and possess strong communication and driving privileges.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School degree (or equivalent).
• Must have a State of Connecticut Animal Control Officer Certificate or be willing to obtain certification within one year.
• Must be physically capable of capturing, controlling, and lifting large animals and must have the ability to deal with aggressive dogs and other animals as necessary.
• Must be knowledgeable about first aid for animals or the like.
• Must have excellent oral and written interpersonal skills.
• Must maintain a valid State of Connecticut driver’s license.
• Must pass a background check.

Responsibilities

• Enforce all laws and regulations regarding control and impoundment of domestic, companion, and exotic animals, as well as enforcement of animal cruelty laws.
• Perform field and office work and maintain the Town’s Animal Shelter.
