Job summary

Lodestar Space in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a Software Engineer II - On-board Autonomy to design and implement on-board decision-making systems for autonomous spacecraft. You will integrate perception, state estimation, and intent prediction to drive real-time actions, with emphasis on robustness in communications-limited environments.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in CS, ML, Robotics or related field.
• 2+ years in autonomy, decision-making, or control for aerospace/robotics.
• Proficient in C++ and Python with DL frameworks PyTorch/TensorFlow.
• Experience applying ML to decision-making or control problems.
• Experience with real-time systems and optimal control/planning.
• Familiarity with multi-agent decision-making under uncertainty.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement on-board decision-making models that adapt in real time.
• Develop autonomous decision algorithms integrating perception, state estimation, and intent prediction.
• Research and deploy ML models for decision making from training to deployment.
• Implement decision models that adapt to changing mission context and environment.
• Develop frameworks for continuous re-evaluation of active strategies.
• Support real-time autonomy in communications-limited scenarios.
• Build and maintain autonomy infrastructure, testing, and deployment pipelines.
