Job summary

RefinedScience seeks a detail-oriented Laboratory Operations Specialist to support daily lab operations and contribute to scientific projects. The role splits roughly 60/40 between operating the lab infrastructure and hands-on genomic/proteomic research in a bustling startup setting.

The ideal candidate holds a BS or MS in biology-related fields with 2–5 years of lab experience and strong organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or a related life sciences field.
• 2–5 years of relevant laboratory experience.
• Hands-on experience with standard molecular/cell biology techniques (PCR, pipetting, cell culture).
• Familiarity with lab safety and biosafety practices (BSL-1/BSL-2).
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities in a startup environment.

Responsibilities

• Manage procurement, maintenance, decontamination, calibration, and repair of lab equipment.
• Oversee inventory and supply chain logistics for lab consumables and reagents.
• Maintain physical sample storage and manage the biorepository database.
• Ensure lab activities comply with OSHA and biosafety guidelines.
• Oversee lab safety protocols, waste disposal, and general hygiene standards.
• Serve as point of contact for safety audits and inspections.
• Conduct hands-on in vitro research supporting pipeline programs, focusing on -omics studies.
• Support scientists in executing complex multi-day experiments with liquid handlers and lab automation.
• Document and archive experimental protocols, data, analyses, and conclusions in SOPs.
