Old Bridge Township Public Library in Middlesex County, NJ, seeks an experienced Library Director to lead operations, budgets, and strategic planning for the 70,000-resident community and STELLA Consortium.

The Director oversees services, facilities, staff, and outreach, reports to the Board of Trustees, and drives innovative programs to meet community needs while fostering a collaborative work culture. This is an at-will position with a focus on long-range planning and policy development.

Qualifications

• At least 5 years of public library administrative experience.
• At least 3 years as a Library Director or managing a similar size organization and staff.
• ALA-accredited MLS or MLIS and NJ State Professional Certification.

Responsibilities

• Prepares annual operating and capital budgets for approval by the Board of Trustees and manages expenditures.
• Provides sound fiscal management and monitors the library’s financial activities and expenditures.
• Oversees maintenance, safety, and condition of library facilities and equipment and reports issues to the Board.
• Assists with Strategic Plan development and policy guidance for the Board of Trustees.

Job description

The Old Bridge Township Public Library’s Board of Trustees is seeking an enthusiastic, experienced and innovative professional to serve as Library Director.Our award-winning Library serves the approximately 70,000 residents of Old Bridge Township in Middlesex County NJ and is part of the STELLA Consortium.

The Library Director is responsible for all operations of the library and its facilities, as well as the development and implementation of its service programs that respond effectively to the needs of the community.The Director manages all library resources and personnel, develops and monitors the budget, assists the Board of Trustees with long range planning and policy development, and plans and implements overall library goals and objectives.

The Library Director reports to the Board of Trustees and is an at-will employee.The principal duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to the following areas:

Board Relations & Administration

• Prepares the annual operating and capital budgets for approval by the Board of Trustees and manages expenditures in accordance with established goals and priorities.
• Provides sound fiscal management and monitors the library’s financial activities and expenditures.
• Oversees the maintenance, safety, and condition of library facilities and equipment and keeps the Board informed of significant issues, repairs, and capital needs.
• Prepares reports and information required by the State of New Jersey and other governing entities.
• Assists the Board with the development and implementation of the library’s Strategic Plan.
• Recommends policies and procedures and provides professional guidance and information to the Board of Trustees and its committees.
• Recruits, hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates library personnel.
• Fosters a positive, collaborative, and professional labor-management environment.
• Administers personnel policies and procedures and ensures compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements.
• Promotes professional development and supports staff growth and organizational effectiveness

Library Services & Operations

• Evaluates, plans, and implements innovative library services that respond to the needs of a diverse and evolving community.
• Encourages the development of new and innovative programs, services, and initiatives.
• Oversees the development and management of the library’s collections to ensure they are current, diverse, accessible, and responsive to community needs.
• Provides leadership and oversight for the Laurence Harbor Branch, including the expansion and development of branch services and facilities.
• Oversees and participates in the planning and organization of technical services and library operations.
• Provides leadership and coordination for facility improvement, renovation, and capital projects.
• Ensures appropriate measures are in place to promote the safety and security of patrons, staff, collections, equipment, and facilities.
• Keeps current with emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in public library service and administration.

Community Relations & Outreach

• Builds and maintains strong relationships between the library and the community.
• Represents the library with municipal officials, community organizations, educational institutions, civic groups, and other partners.
• Serves as the library’s liaison to professional and library organizations.
• Directs and supports a comprehensive public relations and communications program to ensure the community is aware of the library’s services, programs, resources, and collections.
• Promotes the library as an essential community resource and advocates for its continued growth and development.

Requirements:

• At least 5 years of public library administrative experience
• At least 3 years of experience as a Library Director or experience managing a similar size organization and staff
• ALA accredited MLS or MLIS and NJ State Professional Certification

Compensation and Benefits:

• Salary range is $125,000 - $147,000 and is commensurate with experience.
