Mille Lacs Band is seeking an Ojibwe Language Teacher Trainee to learn by shadowing fluent speakers at Nay Ah Shing School Ojibwe Language Program. The role includes participating in Teacher Development training and learning instructional methods.

The trainee will develop language proficiency, align with Mille Lacs Band cultural values, and support the school community while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.

SALARY RANGE: Trainee Salary Scale

SUMMARY

The Ojibwe Language Teacher Trainee is responsible for learning to speak and teach Ojibwe Language. This is accomplished by shadowing fluent Ojibwe Language Speakers and receiving Teacher Development training.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong and lasting commitment to learning the Ojibwe Language.
• Willingness to obtain training in Ojibwe Language instructional methods including the Accelerated Second Language Acquisition method.
• Highly knowledgeable in the traditional ways of the Mille Lacs Band.
• Loves children, can whole-heartedly engage in working with and for them.
• Understanding of the relationship of Nay Ah Shing School Ojibwe Language Program to the Mille Lacs Band Community values and supports the mission of both.
