Qualifications

• Associate's degree in a related discipline.
• Bachelor's degree preferred with additional certifications.
• Knowledge of laws, regulations, AU rules, and safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect research laboratories for safe and compliant use of radiological and biological materials and hazardous chemicals.
• Provide on-site coaching and consultation to laboratory personnel to improve safety and compliance.
• Document surveillances for follow-up action and review by regulatory agencies.
• Track purchase, delivery, and receipt of radiological and biological materials and laboratory chemicals.
• Ensure proper storage of controlled substances and hazardous chemicals.
• Update hazardous materials inventory database to reflect receipt, use, or disposal of materials.
• Store and dispose of radiological, biological, and chemical wastes.
• Disposal assistance of DEA controlled substances with approved methods.
• Document waste management activities for regulatory review.
• Sort and package universal waste (lamps, ballasts, batteries, mercury equipment).
• Conduct life safety inspections and certify fire extinguishers and fume hoods.
• Test safety showers and eyewash stations; identify tripping hazards.
• Evaluate indoor environmental quality complaints and assess air/water quality as needed.
• Collect generator hours monthly and assist in environmental program audits.
• Coordinate spill response and containment, and direct staff on cleanup.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
