Department Description
Student Experience is a division of HPU’s Office of Student Life that strives to foster a welcoming and engaging environment for all students that facilitates personal growth and development, a strong sense of campus community, and social engagement. The Student Experience team oversees the campus cinema & arcade, venture trips, student programming, Summer Advantage, Welcome Week, first-year experience, campus activities, and initiatives.
Job Description
As a student employee under Student Experience, you will gain experience with leadership and event planning, interpersonal communication, facility operations, and customer service. Summer Activities Assistants will work in the arcade and cinema, assist with planning and hosting student programs, chaperone venture trips, assist with office operations, and more. All Summer Activities Assistants will represent the Student Experience team in a positive and enthusiastic manner.
The Student Experience team is seeking to fill two-three Summer Activities Assistant positions.
Job Location/ Hours Required
- Ability to work weekdays, weekends, and some evenings.
- The candidate will perform most/all job duties in the R.G. Wanek Center, the Slane Center, various event locations throughout campus, and at off-campus venture trip sites.
- Hours may vary depending on the calendar for a particular week; however, the maximum number of hours a student employee may work is 25 hours per week [if taking summer classes, 20 hours maximum]. This position requires a minimum of 14 hours per week.
- Position requirements start in early June and end in late July.
*Candidates interested in extending summer employment into the 2025-2026 academic year should inform supervisor for consideration.
Required Qualifications
- Current HPU student
- Good standing with Student Conduct
- Must maintain a professional social media presence.
- Must attend any mandatory meetings or training sessions [dates/times TBD]
- Must be able to work on campus throughout the summer and during all special events.
Experience and Training
- Customer service experience [in a professional setting] is preferred.
- Activities and programming experience are preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft products, Canva, AirTable, and various social media platforms preferred.
- Knowledge of HPU and understanding of the university’s culture and policies
Responsibilities
- Delivers the HPU experience through face-to-face, phone call, email, and social media interactions.
- Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of High Point University and its extensive resources.
- Assists with general office-related tasks, such as printing posters and other event advertisements, organizing & tracking inventory, updating marketing displays, completing weekly cleaning checklist, collecting content for marketing & social media marketings, etc.
- Records equipment use, assists guests, completes equipment checkout process, and completes closing routine when working in the arcade.
- Records cinema attendance, operates projector to run movies, assists guests, works with concessions attendants, and completes closing routine when working in the cinema.
- Maintains cleanliness and ensures all facility standards are being met.
- Submits IT Helpdesk tickets and Campus Enhancement requests as needed to address any issues with equipment functionality.
- Assists Student Experience staff with chaperoning off-campus venture trips.
- Assists with the implementation of Summer Advantage events during the program [June-July 2025].
- Supervises or assists staff with supervising on-campus events and programs.
- Recognizes sensitive internal information and exercises complete discretion when assisting in private matters.
- Collaborates with members of the Student Experience team to ensure a quick resolution to any issues or concerns.
- Assists with Summer Advantage Move-In on Sunday, June 29 and Book & Package Deliveries prior to SA move-in day.
- Executes multiple projects and job functions with efficiency.
- Ability to communicate in a positive manner.

- Works with a sense of urgency while maintaining composure.
