Position Overview

Position: Office Manager, Natural Resources Location: Nelsonville, OH

The Office Manager provides administrative support to the Dean of Natural Resources and Public Safety, coordinates departmental initiatives, maintains accreditation standards, and supports recruiting and admissions events for the School of Natural Resources and Public Safety.

Responsibilities
  • Supports the Dean’s advocacy of the School and department by serving on campus-wide committees and projects.
  • Assists with monitoring, overseeing a variety of school initiatives, projects, meetings, and events.
  • Works closely with the Dean, staff, and faculty to facilitate meetings, organize recruiting and admissions events, and support students (answering questions, assisting in registration/scheduling, and helping students drop/add classes).
  • Manages daily operations in the Dean’s office including appointments, phone calls, greeting visitors, and assisting faculty, staff, students, parents, and the general public.
  • Prepares contracts, permits, purchase orders, work orders, requisitions, and places orders for school supplies and equipment.
  • Responsible for all Dean’s Office student employees: interviewing, hiring, scheduling, supervision, reviews, and terminations.
  • Manages inventory and supply ordering and distribution.
  • Supports student employment on behalf of the School, collaborating with the Career & University Center and curating active job postings for internships and post‑graduation employment opportunities.
  • Utilizes technology and software (Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs, etc.) to develop reports, maintain records, draft and edit letters, memos, and agendas.
  • Ensures technology and related equipment are fully functional for class delivery in all programs.
  • Assigns and manages advisor lists, working in collaboration with faculty.
  • Coordinates and leads student recruitment efforts on behalf of the School of Natural Resources, including training staff and faculty on recruitment software and related processes.
  • Assists faculty with student issues and serves as a secondary advisor for academic probation students with grade appeals.
  • Contributes to overall operations of the School, such as managing equipment and tools loaned to students for classwork and creating and maintaining inventory records.
  • Coordinates student recruitment efforts: responsible for weekly prospective NR student visits and appointment and tour assignments; implements and coordinates virtual and live high school presentations for all programs; conducts weekly meetings with the admissions director to align recruitment efforts with the college’s goals; and leads off‑campus recruitment visits at high schools and community events (e.g., Bob Evans Festival, Paul Bunyan trade show, Ohio State Fair).
  • Performs other tasks and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree required (business/office management, natural resources, or related field).
  • Experience in a higher education field is preferred.
  • Attention to detail, initiative, and follow-through to achieve goals.
  • Proactive in anticipating needs, learning quickly, and reliably completing work on time.
  • Ability to continuously prioritize work, set and achieve goals, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong computer skills—MS Office including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Docs; willingness to learn new computer skills as needed.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and public relation skills.
  • Maintain a neat, well‑organized workspace that projects a high level of professionalism for interactions with all students and visitors.
  • Excellent organizational, prioritization, and problem‑solving skills; ability to take initiative and make decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated capacity to perform complex administrative duties.
