Job summary

HDR seeks an Office Engineer in New York to support transportation facilities projects including tunnels, bridges, airports, and transit systems. You will manage cost estimates, payments, submittals, and schedule tracking to ensure project success.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 5+ years of multidisciplinary construction experience, with strong communication skills. A NY/NJ PE license is preferred; visa sponsorship is not available.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field required.
  • 5+ years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identify discrepancies.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage one or more projects in Transportation Facilities (tunnels, bridges, terminals, airports, transit systems, ports).
  • Oversee independent cost estimates, payments/change orders, submittals/RFIs, and subcontractor approvals.
  • Track project schedules, time and materials billings, and overall financials.
  • Assist in negotiation of construction claims.
  • Track DBE/MBE/WBE/SBE compliance.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

In the role of Office Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Manage one or a portfolio of projects at Transportation Facilities like Tunnels, Bridges, Terminals, Airports, Transit Systems, Ports, etc.
  • Oversee project independent cost estimates, processing and negotiating of payments/change orders to contractors, managing submittals/RFIs, approval of subcontractors, tracking of time and materials billings, tracking and forecasting of project financials, tracking compliance of project schedule.
  • Assist in the negotiation of construction claims.
  • Track contractor DBE/MBE/WBE/SBE compliance.
  • Perform other duties as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
  • 3+ years experience in construction, 2 + years as an Office Engineer working on major transportation/infrastructure projects for public agencies, such as PANYNJ, MTA, NJ Transit, NJTA, NJDOT.
  • Excellent Organizational and communication skills required.
  • OSHA 30-hour training
  • PE license in New York or New Jersey

Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • A minimum of 5 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects
  • Must have a fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with codes and laws governing construction
  • Must possess the ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications and identify discrepancies or conflicts within documents
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Must be computer literate, experience with Microsoft Office, Primavera, or related construction packages
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Sponsorship (visa) for US employment authorization is not available now or in the future for this position
