Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire an Office Coordinator for the Office of Land Management. This position will act as a liaison and maintain records and files for site and satellites; orally or in writing, explains procedures, rules and regulations, park programming, and/or services to contractors, vendors, other parks, and the public, utilizing bilingual skills (Spanish/English); schedule appointments and make travel, training and meeting arrangements; monitor the budget and prepare periodic budget state reports tracking expenditures; assist the Superintendent with budget constraints by sharing accurate fiscal records upon request; and prepare all income and petty cash account records, monthly reconciliations, and annual reports. Illinois Beach State Park—stretching 6.5 miles along the sandy shore of Lake Michigan in northern Illinois—offers a full range of recreation opportunities at one of the most unique and beautiful natural settings in America. Illinois Beach is the only remaining beach ridge shoreline left in the state, with dunes and swales, sprawling marshes, forests of oak, and vast arrays of animal life and vegetation. Essential Functions
  • Under direction of the Site Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent, performs secretarial and complex specialized office support duties for Adeline Jay Geo-Karis Illinois Beach State Park and its satellites.
  • Assists with preparation of operational budgets, equipment requests, and inventory records.
  • Serves as timekeeper for assigned staff.
  • Develops complex, multi-program databases, spreadsheets, forms, and applications for fast and efficient completion of routine reports.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above and travels as necessary.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two years of secretarial/business college, or completion of high school and two years of related office experience, or two years of independent business experience.
  • Requires ability to keyboard accurately at 30 wpm.
  • Requires ability to speak and write Spanish at a colloquial skill level.
Preferred Qualifications
  • One (1) year of work experience communicating programs verbally and in writing to the public in English and Spanish.
  • Extensive knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.
  • One (1) year of experience having the ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
