Position Overview:

The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated candidate to serve as clerical assistant to the Principal at IYC Pere Marquette. The incumbent in this position will perform duties such as: the preparation of technical educational reports and contractual agreements, utilizing software applications to input and maintain education records, preparing budget related reports and correspondence, and will function with a wide latitude of independence in communicating and complying with school district educational and institutional policies and procedures. The ideal candidate will possess great attention to detail and organizational skills.The Department of Juvenile Justice encourages all interested and qualified individuals to apply!

Essential Functions:
  • Under direction, provides office support functions in preparation of technical educational reports, utilizing application of advanced software to gather, input/retrieve information in Juvenile Tracking System and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Responds to inquiries from staff and students regarding educational policies and procedures, educational assignment of youth, school district policies and procedures.
  • Provides guidance and direction to youth and contractual clerical support staff.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • It is a requirement of this position that you possess knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to two (2) years of scretarial/business college

or completion of high school and two (2) years of related office experience

or two (2) years of independent business experience.

  • It is a requirement of this position that you possess the ability to type accurately 30 wpm.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of office practices, procedures and programs.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of composition, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
  • Prefers extensive knowledge of basic mathematics.
  • Prefers working knowledge of the logic of computer programs.
  • Prefers ability to follow oral or written instructions.
  • Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Requires the ability to pass an Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC)/Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) background check.
