Job description

Position Title: Office Cashier

Department: Grocery Department

Reports To: Store Manager

Function:

The Office Cashier supervises cashiers and manages cash, coupons, food stamps, and other forms of customer payment. They assist in controlling and reporting absenteeism, maximizing production, and maintaining organization and cleanliness on the front-end. The Office Cashier also trains cashiers and office personnel, and is responsible for the balancing and security of all customer receipts. They perform all front-end and clerical functions, ensuring the security and proper administration of cash office funds.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Operate the front end efficiently.
  2. Complete daily cash and sales reports, along with weekly summaries.
  3. Handle cash in the cash drawer and safe accurately.
  4. Issue, collect, and verify cash tills from cashiers.
  5. Prepare deposits and record data properly; inform the manager when deposits are ready for bank transfer. Notify the corporate office immediately if a deposit was not made for the day.
  6. Answer, screen, and route telephone calls appropriately.
  7. Notify management of situations requiring disciplinary actions or other significant issues.
  8. Verify invoices and ensure totals are correct in both cost and retail.
  9. Maintain accurate monthly records and reports in a timely manner.
  10. Assist in training new and existing associates.
  11. Provide high-quality customer service to promote goodwill.
  12. Assist customers with returns, overrings, and overcharges.
  13. Handle cash pickups as per company policy.
  14. Enforce store policies related to front-end operations and stay observant.
  15. Possess a working knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures.
  16. Demonstrate good interpersonal skills, maturity, and leadership ability.
  17. Work a maximum of 10 hours and a minimum of 8 hours per day.
  18. Travel to and from work as required.
  19. Give verbal and written instructions effectively.
  20. Be detail-oriented with the ability to train others.
  21. Read, write, and perform basic math operations.
  22. Operate cash registers, checkout belts, and related equipment.
  23. Lift up to 45 pounds.
  24. Communicate verbally with customers clearly.
  25. Operate intercoms, phones, money order and credit card machines, safes, and food stamp equipment.
  26. Give correct change to customers and cashiers.
  27. Manage receipts and maintain balanced registers within prescribed limits.
  28. Perform cleaning duties around the work area.
  29. Stock shelves with candy and other products.
  30. Assign duties and give directions to cashiers.
  31. Reach and stock products up to 6 feet high.
  32. Cash checks, set up, operate, and balance tills.
  33. Authorize credits, refunds, and over-rings as outlined.
  34. Maintain product displays and dump bin areas daily.
