The State of Hawaiʻi invites applications for a clerical supervisor position in the Downtown and Halawa to Kalihi area. This recruitment will establish a list of qualified candidates for the current vacancy and possible future openings.

Salary ranges from $3,748 to $4,742 per month, SR-12, Step C to I. Legal authorization to work in the United States, six months of English grammar/arithmetic, three years of clerical experience, and potential supervisory aptitude are required for some positions.

Qualifications

  • Legal Authorization To Work: The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
  • Basic Experience: Six months of work experience which demonstrated knowledge of English grammar, spelling, and arithmetic; the ability to read and understand oral and written instructions; write simply and directly; and compare words and numbers quickly and accurately.
  • Clerical Experience: Three years of work experience which involved the performance of a variety of clerical tasks and demonstrated knowledge of office practices and procedures, and the ability to carry out procedures in clerical work systems, and operate various kinds of office equipment and technologies.
  • Supervisory Experience/Aptitude: Possession of Supervisory Experience/Aptitude is required for some positions. Supervisory experience must have included: planning, organizing, scheduling, directing the work of others; assigning and reviewing their work; advising on difficult work problems; training and developing subordinates; evaluating work performance and disciplining when necessary; Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for supervisory duties.

Note: Employees appointed to temporary positions may also gain membership in the civil service upon satisfactory completion of an initial probation period of at least six months. Duties Summary

Supervise and participate in performing highly complex clerical work involving a wide range of clerical functions where some originating and planning of work is required and/or a variety of highly complex clerical or administrative tasks that are primarily substantive in nature and requires evaluating information for conformance with established requirements and interpreting laws, rules and regulations in order to determine appropriate disposition and use of judgment because problems are often not covered by standard instructions or established techniques, systems or procedures. Carry out assignments independently, and accomplish work with substantial use of discretion and selectiveness in deviating from established processes and procedures, and perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervisory Aptitude is the demonstration of aptitude or potential for the performance of supervisory duties through successful completion of regular or special assignments which involve some supervisory responsibilities or aspects of supervision, e.g., by serving as a group or team leader, or by the completion of training courses in supervision accompanied by application of supervisory skills in work assignments; and/or by favorable appraisals by a supervisor indicating the possession of supervisory potential.
