Job summary

Lee State Park, managed by the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism, seeks a Park Ranger to support daily operations and maintenance at the park. The role includes administrative duties, supervising routine tasks, and assisting with park planning and visitor services.

Under general supervision, you will assume Park Manager responsibilities in their absence, enforce park policies, manage facilities, and coordinate revenue reporting while engaging with guests along the Lynches

Qualifications

• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
• Associate degree in Park Management or related field with 1 year of Park Ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must possess valid South Carolina driver's license.

Responsibilities

• Assist with overall operation and maintenance of the State Park.
• Assume the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.
• Perform administrative duties including time sheets, camping rentals, reservations, deposits, and annual park planning.
• Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
• Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet standards.
• Manage specific operations including retail, public use areas, rentals, and facility operations.
• Enforce park rules, regulations, and policies.
• Assist in inventory control and reporting.
• Interpret the park's natural and cultural resources to visitors.

Job description

One of several CCC parks in the state, Lee State Park was built in 1935 by the CCC in order to provide riverside recreational opportunities for the residents of Lee County, South Carolina.

Along the Lynches River, which runs through Lee County, South Carolina and is partially protected from development by the state of South Carolina, kayaking and canoeing trips can be taken through the park’s hardwood forest floodplain. Fishing may also be enjoyed from along the banks of the river and children can fish for catfish in the park’s artesian pond.

The park’s rich diversity of natural habitats and wildlife make it an ideal setting for nature walks and the interpretive, educational programs hosted on site. Equestrian facilities are also available. Lee State Park is one of the shrinking number of CCC parks with surviving structures that display the classic Conservation Corps architecture.

Job Purpose and Duties:

Under general supervision, assists with overall operation and maintenance of a State Park. Performs diversified duties as governed by general instruction, policies and standard operating procedures of the Department. Assumes the responsibilities of the Park Manager in the absence of higher level employees.

• Improve self and professional development skills.
• Assists with park administrative duties in accordance with Department policy and procedures and planning of long and short-term goals. Administrative duties include, but are not limited to time sheets, camping rentals, reservations, end of day close outs, weekly deposits, and annual park planning.
• Collect and account for revenue and produce required reports.
• Instruct, supervise and perform routine and preventative maintenance on grounds, buildings and equipment to meet established standards. Maintains a safe work environment.
• Manages assigned specific operations to include retail, public use areas, rentals, and shelter, and facility operations.
• Enforces park rules, regulations, and policies within established limits and in accordance with department policy.
• Assists in control of inventories of equipment, supplies, and other items. Complete related reports as required.
• Interprets the cultural and natural resources of the State Park Service to park visitors.

Associates degree in Park Management or related field with one(1) years of Park Ranger experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements:

• Position requires medium to heavy lifting, bending, waling, and standing on uneven terrain, crawling and working at heights. Exposure to weather conditions, cleaning agents, and other material used in maintaining park facilities and grounds. Works with office equipment such as computers, calculators, ect. Position will require frequent travel between Woods Bay and Lee State Natural Area.

• Must posses valid South Carolina's Drivers license.

Actual Job Location: Lee State Park

Full-time, 40 hours per week rotating schedule including weekends and holidays.
